Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in “Ek Tha Tiger”.

The Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer movie ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ is geared up to release on August 15 and a new quandary has paved its way from coming into the public eye. We say so because, Pakistan has desisted its cable operators and television Chanels from broadcasting the promos and reviews of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ assigning that the Bollywood movie sullies the image of the ISI.

On this issue, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority issued a letter last week to all its satellite TV channels and cable networks, stating the movie ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ is allegedly based on the activities of ISI and RAW and hence it’s promos and reviews should get postponed from screening.

The letter mentioned, “Ek Tha Tiger, set for world release on August 15, is reportedly based on the activities of ISI and RAW. Besides, basic theme of the story revolves around Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency with the objective to tarnish the image of state owned institution.”

Apart, PEMRA ordered the channels and cable operators not to air the promos and reviews of the movie till the Central Board of Film Censors does not issue an NOC (no-objection certificate) for the movie. “The matter should be given utmost preference and due care be ensured to uphold the country’s image and any unintentional lapse in this regard be avoided,” further added the letter.

The romantic thriller ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ stars Salman as a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent who has purposefully visited Pakistan to keep an eye on the movements of a college professor, who is supposed  to sell the missile technology secrets to Pakistan. The movie is directed by Kabir Khan and Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif plays the female protagonist in the movie.

It’s not first time that the Pakistan censor board has taken such step. Before also it had banned the SaifAli Khan starrer Bollywood movie ‘Agent Vinod’ on the ground that it depicted the influential ISI in an unflattering light. Hence, it’s to be seen now, what step exactly the makers of the movie take against such irrelevant decision of PEMRA!
