Anil Kapoor’s desi 24 faces hindrances!

Superstar Anil Kapoor who has travelled a long way from the B-town to Hollywood was quite happy for his most go-getting television project – the Indian remake of cult American series 24. But his dream has been punched by a key barricade. Actually, we were in reports earlier that the rights to remake the Indian version of his dream project was purchased by Star India for a surprising 85 crore and at present we hear that the channel has terminated the deal!

This development has given the episode a new turn and the various stories being circulated by the channel’s PR machinery before about the deal, has come to an end. What the sources reveal about the cancellation grounds of the project is that the channel doubts if it would be possible to Indianise the show and dilute its Hollywood quintessence. “They were of the opinion that Anil’s adaptation of 24 would not complement the channel’s image, known for its family dramas. So the deal has been called off, which might prompt Anil to touch base with other channels,” informs the source.

Conversely, director Abhinay Deo, who was incorporated to wheel the show, prove this development false, saying, “The show was never meant for the channel mentioned in news reports. Those were speculative stories, so we chose not to respond. The show is definitely happening, but I can’t give you a timeframe within which it will launch.”

However, Anil says something different. As per his view, he is in talks with some channels, but had never finalized any. Confirming this he said, “Even the casting is yet to be locked. I am planning to recruit newcomers for the show, with me in the lead. 24 is special, and its adaptation has turned out beautifully. I want the best channel to launch the show. In all likelihood, shooting will commence by the end of this year.”

We must let you know one thing here that Anil had made his American television debut with this long-running show. Hence, we hope its desi version will prove to be a jackpot for Anil in his own continent too!
