Achala Sachdev

Achala Sachdev passed away leaving her appraisers to mourn for.

Legendary Bollywood actress Achala Sachdev is no more! The latest media reports confine, that she passed away yesterday (April30, 2012) at the age of 91 in Pune hospital. Finally, there came an end to a filmy era with the sad demise of this veteran actress. She was under treatment since September 2011 due to a fracture in her leg and soon the diagnosis of multiple emboli in brain led her to total paralysis and loss of vision.

This yesteryear actress stepped in Bollywood with her premier film Fashionable Wife (1938) and kept steadfast footsteps in the industry with some of her most popular films like ‘Haqeeqat’, ‘Waqt’, ‘Mera Naam Joker’, and ‘Julie’. But why she is most abruptly missed today by all is because of her ever remembered chart buster “Aye mere zohra jabeen” from ‘Waqt’ that made her a domestic name over night. She was last seen in “Na Tum Jano Na Hum”, a Hritik Roshan starrer which got released in the year 2002. Over all she has acted in 130 films and each with an indelible mark in the industry.

The initial years of her life were really magnificent. She got married to Clifford Douglas, a British Engineer who was first introduced to her by Yash Chopra. The Engineer owned a factory in the periphery of Pune and the couple was having a luxurious life there for some time. But henceforth of 2002, she was left discarded only with a watchman to guard her in a low-lighted two-bedroom apartment in Pune after her husband’s death. Her last decade was really perilous though she got survived by a son Jyotin (lives in USA) and a daughter living out of Mumbai. But no one was in touch with her at the time of her death.

Anyhow, the suffering has come to an end and the truth can’t be overawed that the veteran actress is no more. Her scarcity will ever be felt by every Bollywood fan and the vacancy is hard to be filled. We offer our earnest condolence! “May Her Soul Rest in Peace”.
