Chitrangada Singh in the song ‘Kaafirana’.

The most talked about bawdy item number Kaafirana from Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movie ‘Joker’ is likely to undergo the claim of insulting patriotic sentiments. This got confirmed by one of the activists on Thursday. The song starring the actor-turned-item girl Chitrangada Singh is alleged to have disgraced the first Independence warrior of the country Jhansi ki Rani, Laxmibai.

Said Sri Rajkumar Tak, director of International Human Rights Association, Maharashtra, “The song has caused an intolerable insult to our first warrior of independence, Rani Laxmibai, famous as Jhansi ki Rani.”

Even a legal notice has already been sent to the Central Board of Film Certification asking for removal of the song. Confirming about the notice, lawyer S. Kunjuraman  told to a leading daily, “The song, Kaafirana, carries offensive words and utters the name of the great warrior princess Jhansi Ki Rani in a derogatory manner. We want the producer, Shirish Kunder, to delete the item number or Rani Laxmibai’s name must be deleted from that song.”

Besides, Kunjuraman accused that sung by B-town singer Sunidhi Chauhan, the song features several offensive terms like bevdi, bawaal, kaafirana, paapi ye ang hai, saali kalank hai, fultoo dabangg hai, kholeye ab, do peg, baby I just want you, and Jhansi Ki Rani  etc. And Tak added that a video featuring a vulgar item girl moving like a drunkard and spinning a long stick signifing the sword of Rani Laxmibai, really offends our first freedom fighter.

However, the lawyer Mr. Kunjuraman  has threatened the producers to go up to the Bombay High Court to get proper justice, unless the song is been removed by the filmmakers. The movie is slated for 31st August release and we afraid if such allegation wouldn’t put a halt to the release to the movie!
